For today's prompt, pick a city, make that the title of your poem, and write a poem.
Jacmel
I was thinking about you today.
While ordering my new wedding ring
my mind ran back to your sea,
that salty water rushing in and out.
It sucked my ring away from me; gobbled
it up and didn't give it back.
Your thievery, though, is not all I'm
reminded of. I think about standing on
the pool deck and looking out at the
blue and green, the sea and the mountains,
your people, so dark and glistening in
the sun and kicking a ball across
the sand. For all the desperation and
destruction you are home to, I remember
your kindness and joy and love
and long to embrace you again.
