The Productive Writer by Sage Cohen

Sage Cohen makes it impossible to be unproductive.  In her new book, The Productive Writer, Sage offers both a high-level view and a practical, tactical approach to becoming a more productive writer.  With her ever encouraging and enthusiastic voice, she champions the reader to fight for his craft and to dream big.  Sage is big on organization.   Being more organized increases your chances of completing your goals within the time-frame you've set-up.  From the get-go in The Productive Writer, Sage asks you to participate.  She helps the reader define his goals, define what “productive” means to him (chapter 1), and plan his time wisely (chapters 6 and 7) to achieve those goals.  Chapter 12 (Writing in the Margins of a Full-time Life) was my favorite, as Sage makes a case that whatever your situation is right now, you can still write.  Many of us use our full-time jobs or families or other commitments as excuses, when really they are all a part of our “writing life.”  Her thoughts on having a platform (chapter 2), organization of information (chapter 9) and embracing fear (chapter 11) were particularly helpful as well.  After reading multiple sections of The Productive Writer aloud to my wife, she interrupted and said, “Seriously, dude, you've read a ton of books about writing...this is the best. You need to get another copy and rip out the pages you're reading to me and hang them up!”  Sage Cohen is one of the most encouraging people I know and The Productive Writer is her “You can DO it!” to me and you.  It's a perfect combination of birds-eye-view advice and practical wisdom the reader can implement immediately.  Grab a copy and start your productive writing life today!
