NaPoWriMo Day 4

Today's prompt is: write a history poem.

Acting Did Not Come Naturally

You barely cried when you were born.
The nurses were beside themselves
because you were so alert, so attentive.

Your eyes were so big and so wide,
so deep with curiosity, even though I
know that was not technically possible.

Or was it? Perhaps we've been tricked
into thinking babies are unaware and
you just did a poor job of hiding the truth.

When did you realize you were not
acting as helpless as the others?  Did they
reprimand you in the nursery that first night?

Your acting improved over the next several
nights and weeks and months, but even so,
you'd never win an Oscar.

You were too good, too easy.  But you did
well enough to convince us.  Those big baby
blues, darting aimlessly around the room.

(I like the idea of this one, but...yikes.  Revision sorely needed.)
